Afritrade invests own capital as well as capital in partnership with other strategic investors. The geographical focus of the company is East Africa, which has a GDP of $250 billion and growth outlook of about 5%.
Afritrade targets resilient sectors with potential for both capital preservation and capital growth. These include:
- Manufacturing
- Logistics
- Healthcare
- Housing
- Agribusiness
- Technology
- Financial Services
Our preference is businesses that are already in operation for at least three years. In certain circumstances we will consider startups in the technology space.
Our tickets sizes range from a minimum of $500 thousand, with a preferred amount of $2.5 million and above.

The investment process is as below:
- Submission: investee submits their opportunity information for review. This is initially an executive summary that includes the sector, sources and uses of funds, return expectations and investment horizon.
- Interest: once the opportunity is deemed viable to pursue we shall formally express interest and require full project information
- Review: our review committee goes through the full submission and determines if it is in order to proceed.
- Committee: our investment committee makes an investment determination and will subsequently issue a term sheet.
- Due Diligence: the team will undertake legal, financial, corporate and stakeholder due diligence
- Contracting: once satisfied with the due diligence, our legal team will work with the investee to prepare the agreements and related instruments that formalize the business relationship
- Investment: the opportunity will be funded against the agreed disbursement schedule.
